Leadership for the Future is an intensive leadership development program that gathers diverse leaders from community groups, labor unions, and religious communities to forge relationships and networks that will forever benefit them, their organizations, and their communities.

Leadership for the Future generates a powerful, committed, and diverse network of graduates that learn from each other and take action together to achieve the shared goals of economic and social justice for ALL Rhode Islanders. Participants examine the process and impact of social influence and leadership on the many issues facing Rhode Islanders today.

Interactive, participatory workshops create an empowering space for institutional reflection, self-determination, and power analysis. In addition to learning about Rhode Island’s history, culture, economy, and politics, participants are introduced to many topics and skills such as:

  • Grass Roots & Labor Organizing

  • Cross-Movement Solidarity

  • Building Programs, Initiatives, and Campaigns

  • Lobbying for Change

  • Organizing in the Digital Age

  • Public Speaking

Participants select issues in their communities they would like to address through a Community Action Project (CAP). The knowledge and skills attained through each Monday session assists in the process. Every week participants engage skills learned in the program, develop and implement an action plan to address their goal(s).
